Between 25 and 27 March, in addition to international artists each evening, a local music band will be performing on the big stage of the bridge of Maria Cristina.

Stop War Festibala poster is created by the artist Garikoitz Murua C. Fierro, it shows a bridge between two shores as metaphor of the Festival.

The Festival will host a two-day meeting to reflect on the nowadays conflict and explore the contributions that can be made at the municipal level against the war.

If there are spaces with great symbolism in war are the bridges, first infrastructures to be demolished, but in turn, bridges also mean meeting and union. Based on that idea, Stop War Festibala intended to be the music that links the two shores of the Urumea, bridging of harmony and coexistence.

Music for wound closure.

The music will be part of the many activities of the festival. With the bridge of Maria Cristina as a backdrop, three local artists will open the performings for three international bands. Two of them have already been confirmed.

Bob Geldof & The Boomtown Rats

Bob Geldof began in 1976 with the Boomtown Rats group, one of the pioneers in the punk movement, a period in which reaped several successes, such as Rat trap or I don’t like Mondays.

In 1984, shocked by the images he saw on television on the famine in Ethiopia, he organized one of the most important benefit concerts of the century: Live Aid. Among others, Bob Dylan, U2, Sting, Elton John and Phil Collins attended the concert to fight poverty and ask the G8 to reduce the debt of African countries.

GOSE

Gose will heat up the atmosphere of the María Cristina bridge before giving way to Geldof. The trio of Arrasate began their musical career in 2004. Gose is based on a new concept of mixing the trikitixa with electronic music.

NICK
The prominent British musician Nick Lowe has managed to cross borders and has become a world figure. Apart from his albums as a performer, with his role as producer for Stiff Records, he exerted a considerable influence on new wave and punk in the late seventies.

His most notable album was Labour of lust, containing Cruel to be kind, best remembered success. As soloist and producer Lowe also continued partnerships with groups like The Pretenders, or with American singer Carlene Carter.

NIÑA COYOTE ETA CHICO TORNADO stop war festibala

Niña Coyote eta Chico Tornado are Ursula Strong (drums) and Koldo Soret (guitar and vocals).

A Band from Donostia ,desertic hard rock lovers, they will present new songs of the album to be released in spring with a heavy rock show as they have done.

Throughout the day will be installed in the Paseo de France invited various NGOs to bring their information booths to link the neighborhoods of Gros and Egia. Some of the most significant organizations that will be present are Amnesty International, Intermon Oxfam and UNHCR.

In Paseo del Árbol de Gernika will be installed 20 food trucks, restaurants and terraces of cuisines in the world with kebab stalls, Arab tea shops, Irish pubs, couscous, Indian food …

The complete festival program and all information on the organization of the event, will be released throughout the month of February.

Bridge over troubled water

STOP WAR FESTIBALA 2016 POSTER

The winning poster showing a bridge connecting two banks as a metaphor of the Festival and the resolution of conflicts by non-belligerent way, is the work of the author Garikoitz Murua C. Fierro (Donostia, 1978) responsible for the gallery and the art project GKO from Guipuzkoa 2008.

His work has been selected from the 53 proposals submitted to the competition organized by the organizers of the Festival and was an expert jury.

The festival is grateful for the great reception given to the event and wants to highlight the high level that the posters presented have.

Reflection meetings against war

In the area of ​​awareness, participation and reflection against the war, Stop War Festibala, a two-day meeting will held to reflect on the conflicts shaking the world today, and specifically, on war as a business, patriarchy, the violation of rights caused by war, and other issues such as the possibility of establishing a state without an army, the role of culture and education and the contributions that can be made at the municipal level against the war.

The meeting will be attended and participation, among others, Carmen Magallón, President of WILPF Spain, Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom and Vice President of the Spanish Association for Peace Research AIPAZ; Stasa Zajovic, co-founder and coordinator of Women in Black of Belgrade; Pere Ortega, President of the Centre d’Estudis Delàs for Peace and Pepe Beunza, historical militant of conscientious objection.

The meeting will be attended with the participation, among others, Josep Maioral i Antigas, mayor of Granollers and vice president of Mayors for Peace (Mayors for Peace); Manuela Carmena, mayor of Madrid and the mayor of San Sebastian Eneko Goia.

The singer, guitarist and Cuban poet, characteristic exponent of the music of his country known as the Nueva Trova Cubana and UNESCO Artist for Peace, will perform a special concert in the Anoeta Velodrome on April 3.

Stop the War Festival convenes an online contest to select the poster that will be the official image of its first edition.

The Festival aims to stimulate creativity and encourage participation and socialization of our idea of ​​raising awareness about the need to build a future on anti-war pillars.

The competition is open to all authors who wish to participate and may submit up to two works per participant.

The posters must be original and unpublished and not have been winners in other competitions.

The author of the poster must be the owner of the rights to the images and elements used in the poster keys or free use resources.

In order to facilitate participation, the competition will be online through a specific site within the official web www.stopwarfestibala.com. In this web you will find both the logos and texts which should include the posters submitted to the contest report.

The deadline for registration will be open from 16th November to 9th December.

Participants must complete a form with email, full name, phone number and title of the poster to present their proposals. The posters must be submitted in JPG format. The file must have a minimum size of 1361 x 1927 pixels and up to 2825 x 4000 pixels in the vertical format. The weight may not exceed 8 MB.

It is important that the cartel is identified with a “Title”, to serve as reference face the voting process. This data will be requested as required for the registration of the cartel.

A professional jury composed of members of the Lighthouse of Peace 2016, organization and industry professionals will choose the winner who will be announced on January 4th at a press conference.

Winning means assign the rights to the work that the organization reserves the capacity for its adaptations.

The prize for the winner will be 500 €.
